South east mountain rescue (2016)

TFT had the pleasure of presenting a 4×4 Off Road Driving (Professional) training course to members of South East Mountain Rescue (SEMR) team this weekend, 10-11 September 2016. Both Kevin and Thomas (TFT instructors) carried out the driver training at our purpose-built training facility at Millbrook Off Road Centre.

The off road training course was in first class condition for training, with the recent spell of rain making conditions perfect for instructing the many skills needed for achieving the Lantra accredited training course certification. The members of SEMR attending the course produced excellent standards of driving and were in total agreement that the course presented and highlighted the many health & safety aspects of operating a 4×4 vehicle; from mission specific risk assessment considerations, pre-use checks of the equipment to route assessment and planning.

Having the correct equipment is vitally important in any rescue mission, as is the need to have driver/operators that not only know the equipment’s capabilities, but also take into account their own abilities. To this end a generic part of any training course presented at TFT; whether it be a 4×4 off road driving course, winch, health & safety in winching or ATV training, covers all aspects of operating equipment in a safe and professional manner.

As stated to the guys’ who undertook the two day professional course upon its completion, the off road driving we witnessed was top notch and some of the best we have seen at TFT.

See the guys’ comments below:
